Contractor Licensing is regulated through state and local government. Processing times vary by state based on the specific states’ work load. Generally you can expect 30-90 days for the boards to process a license. Other factors that affect processing times are:
– Exams
– Holidays
– Financial Statements
CLP charges a one time fee for our service which is all inclusive of processing your application. We collect all relevant state and exam fees. You will receive a custom quote based on your specific needs. Generally, prices for licensing range from $1150 – $2500 (including our fees and state fees)
Most states will require experience in the specific trade that you are applying for. This experience, in general, can be gained through appreticeships, employment by a licensed contractor, being a license holder in a different state, and in some cases holding a construction related college degree from an accredited college will be accepted for some of your experience.
Important Notes:
– Some states do not require experience in certain trades.
– International experience is not usually accepted due to difference in building codes
– Not all experience requires verification from an employer
